Leadership and the Integration of 21st Century Skills in Curriculum

Gone are the days when, in this fast-changing world scenario, the onus of educational institutions was to prepare rather than to turn out individuals fit to work in a complex, innovative, and team-driven environment. Schools have to incorporate 21st-century skills into their curriculum: critical thinking, collaboration, and digital literacy. Therefore, this will not only add value to the instruction but rather will be a must for developing students' competencies to meet the demands of a diverse and interdependent world.
Leadership, however, effectively integrates such facilitation. It is through effective leadership that educators in schools are guided towards the development of 21st-century skills through changing curricula. School leaders set out the vision for curriculum reform, create supportive environments, and ensure that collaboration among teachers fosters a culture. This thesis explores the relationship between leadership and integration regarding the inclusion of 21st-century skills in school curricula through an elaboration of how different leading styles and strategies are able to contribute to the development of critical thinking, collaboration, and digital literacy in students.
Ever-evolving needs in the working world and society impress upon the need for such integration of skills. With industries being reshaped by automation and digital technologies, employers are seeking out employees with critical thinking, collaboration, and digital literacy. It is in relation to such changes that an administrative head has to move in tandem and must focus on integrating 21st-century skills to prepare learners for the same.
