Perceptions Of Teachers on Integrating IBPYP and STEAM in IBPYP schools in Riyadh
The purpose of this study is to investigate the possibility of implementing STEAM education in the Riyadh schools that is already implemented in the IB PYP program. This research also points out a theoretical synergy between STEAM’s interdisciplinary, project-based engagement and IB PYP’s transdisciplinary design. However, the problem of a lack of resources, inadequate professional development, and numerous barriers at the institutional level poses challenges to the integration process. The positive influence of STEAM was identified in the aspect of students’ engagement and creativity, while the measurement of interdisciplinary and creative learning remained challenging within the framework of IB PYP. The strategies proposed are focused on increasing professional development of teachers, resource equity via support for technology, and pre-service and in-service collaboration among educators. Mitigating these challenges will improve STEAM integration and the quality of education and fully align with the nation’s Vision 2030.
