Budget Management in NGOs (The Case of Mozambique NGOs Based in Nampula)

This action research paper explores the critical role of fund management in non-governmental organizations based in Nampula city. This action research paper scrutinized the fund management at the World Vision, Uataf, Plan International and Save the Children based in Nampula city. Vast majority of NGOs based in Nampula city often operate in resource-constrained environments, making effective fund management essential for fulfilling their missions and maximizing impact. The study examines funding management, including grants, donations, and social enterprises, and assesses their implications for financial planning and community benefits. The research paper highlight best practices in budgeting, financial reporting, and donor communication that enable these NGOs to build trust and transparency with stakeholders. Additionally, the paper discusses the importance of risk management and the need for adaptive financial strategies in response to current political and economic challenges in Mozambique, more precisely in Nampula city. Through case studies of these NGOs, we identify key factors that contribute to effective fund management, such as capacity building, community situations in Nampula province, stakeholder and community engagement, and the use of technology in financial process planning. Ultimately, this research aims to provide a comprehensive framework for NGOs to enhance their fund management practices, ensuring long-term viability and greater social impact in their communities.
