The Effectiveness of the Occupational Health and Safety Management System in the Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

This research aims to compare and evaluate the effectiveness of Abu Dhabi’s Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) based regulatory framework against the traditional frameworks employed in other Emirates of the UAE, specifically within the Construction and Manufacturing sectors. The study focuses on determining whether the mandatory OHSMS framework or the conventional laws and regulations is more successful in reducing workplace incidents and fostering a positive safety culture. Additionally, the research explores the financial impact of the OHSMS framework, particularly whether it helps businesses
reduce hidden costs.
A questionnaire was developed based on an extensive literature review and preliminary interviews with industry leaders from both sectors. Data collection included focus group discussions, in-person interviews with key personnel, and the use of online professional networks within selected organizations. The study employed direct interaction for qualitative
data collection, while quantitative data was gathered through the questionnaire responses. Both datasets were analyzed independently and then merged for a comprehensive interpretation of the results.
