The Impact of Circular Economy, Innovation, and Sustainability on Environmental and Economic Performance in the Marble Industry
This thesis provides a comprehensive analysis of the impact of innovation and sustainability on performance in the marble industry, with particular emphasis on the integration of the circular economy as a key driver for economic and ecological transformation.
Historically associated with traditional methods and high natural resource consumption, the marble industry is currently facing significant challenges linked to resource scarcity, increased regulatory pressures, and heightened global competition. Within this context, technological and managerial innovation and sustainability strategies have become essential to maintaining competitiveness and long-term viability.
The central issue addressed by this research is how adopting innovative and sustainable practices—particularly through circular economy principles—can positively affect operational, financial, and environmental performance in marble industry companies.
The research methodology employs a mixed-method approach, combining detailed case studies conducted among leading firms in the United Arab Emirates and the Gulf region, complemented by extensive quantitative analysis. This dual approach allowed precise identification of performance-enhancing factors, including significant reduction in industrial waste, optimization of supply chains through RFID and ERP systems, and systematic valorization of by-products and rejected materials through circular economy initiatives.
